A full report put together by Mattis with the help of experts in the field on the role of transgender people in the military has been submitted to a Seattle Court. Naturally, the LGBTQ community and their influential supporters are in paroxysms of anger at the details.
But the reality is that for trans folk, they should be happy because the memo suggests that trans people can join the military but not if they are going to be a liability. What's wrong with that?
In fact, the memo even notes that there is a clear difference between trans people and people with a mental illness! People who are suffering from gender dysphoria have a mental illness, Mattis's memo makes a clear distinction between this. Why would the trans community not be joyous at the fact that the Trump administration is going against the narrative that trans folk suffers from a mental illness?
But for those who worry about a negative impact on the military, fear not… The memo also says:
- No position for anyone who will be undergoing surgeries
- Must have lived as their chosen gender for a consecutive 36 months before joining
- No one with gender dysphoria allowed
You see, there are presently almost a thousand people in the military who presently suffer from gender dysphoria; over the last 2 years alone, they have required 30,000 psych visits between them. This is not a strong and stable component of the military.
