After the horrendous execution of NYPD Officer, Miosotis Familia, Mayor de Blasio thought it wise to leave the city and join the G20 protests in Hamburg rather than give much-needed support to the people who literally put their lives on the line every day for the city he claims to represent.
At Officer Familia's funeral, many Officers turned their backs in disgust as the Mayor delivered his eulogy. The understandable disgust comes when we realize exactly why the Mayor was not around the day after the execution. He had decided that the best way to represent new York City was to fly over to Hamburg, Germany (the site of the G20 Summit) and join in with an “Anti-Capitalist” protest.
Leaving aside for a moment that New York more than any other city owes its success to the tenets of Capitalism, he joined a violent group of protesters who not only burned cars and looted shops, but actually assaulted and injured more than 500 police officers! This was an epic failure of judgment that de Blasio will likely not recover from.
Police Officers the world over are a Brotherhood (and Sisterhood, of course), and when you hurt one, you hurt them all. De Blasio is a disgrace to the office he holds and has put his personal image above all other concerns. If he were going to the G20 to actually speak with World Leaders about something, he could be forgiven, but to go there and join violent animals is beyond the pale.
This was not the first time NYPD turned their back on Mayor de Blasio, here's a video from 2014:
As reported in Fox News Insider:
For the second time in recent memory, rank-and-file NYPD officers turned their backs in a show of solidarity against Mayor Bill de Blasio (D), the New York Post reported.
De Blasio has taken heat from police officers for his ambivalence over Black Lives Matter protests, as well as remarks he made in the wake of the Eric Garner incident.
At the time, de Blasio said he warned his multi-racial son, Dante, about how to deal with police if confronted.
Two years after cops ignored de Blasio's speech during the funeral of slain Officer Wenjian Liu, the police again silently made their feelings known.
De Blasio was attending the funeral for Officer Miosotis Familia, a mother of three who was assassinated in her squad car last week.
