The historic North Korean summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un may be on the brink of failure. There was due to be a meeting today between the North and South leaders in the Peninsula's demilitarized zone, but this was canceled after joint training drills between the US and the South went ahead as scheduled.
The NK leadership see these battle drills as a “rehearsal” for an invasion, leading the local media to suggest that the historic meeting set for Singapore may not go ahead.
But where does the fault really lie? This was a scheduled exercise that has been taking place year in year out.
Kim released a statement saying that if the US “corners us and unilaterally demands we give up nuclear weapons we will no longer have an interest in talks” and “will have to reconsider” going to the June 12 meeting.
He said that it was “very unfortunate that the US is provoking us ahead of the summit by spitting out ludicrous statements”.
And what are these “ludicrous statements”? Since news of the meeting broke, we have not heard much from President Trump other than that he is looking forward to it. Could Kim be referring to the constant bleatings of the media sheep who are determined to derail this thing to make Trump look bad? It looks like they may have succeeded.
