Under President Trump's administration, from last October just 44 Syrian refugees have been admitted into the United States. For reference, during the same period last year (most of which was under Barack Obama) the number was around 6,000.
Depending on your perspective, this is either a great tragedy or a resounding success, but what it shouldn't be, is an excuse by the left-leaning media to lambast Donald Trump as a racist…yet this is exactly what they are doing.
The fact is that the administration has introduced new vetting procedures, debate rages on whether this takes any longer to process, but the vetting is essential. Just look at Europe that admitted hundreds of thousands of people without any vetting, some of whom have gone on to engage in acts of terror against their host country, commit crimes, rapes, murders, child sex abuse, and numerous other shocking things.
Does this mean that all Syrian refugees will do this? Of course not! But vetting allows us to keep out those that have a higher probability of doing so.
The left complains that not only is the vetting taking place, but also that it is ineffective. They are either being obtuse or happen to be idiots. When a vetting board asks for social media handles, it does not expect everyone to tell the truth…But they have people in place to hunt down these social media profiles and determine if they are ISIS supporters if they are engaged in “unhealthy practices” or pose a risk based on their ideas about women and homesexuals.
And if they lie..and are found out…they can be removed for lying on their application far easier than through any other method.
44 seems like a low number, but how many have failed the basic vetting? And how many were admitted before this vetting began that are now a danger to society?
