The social media giant, Twitter has really nailed its colors to the mast in terms of who it supports and who it does not. A post was put out saying: ‘Drove through Stamford Hill today. F*** me the gaffs[sic] riddled with full blown Jews. Absolutely vile.’
This was reported by concerned readers; Twitter replied saying that it does not violate their rules in abusive behavior!!! This is utterly crazy. To call a whole group of people “vile” because of their race and religion is the very definition of racism…There is no other way to describe it.
But the big question is…Would Twitter react the same if the Tweet was about another group of people who are often defined by their race or religion, for example, Muslims? Well, we already know the answer to this…Of course they wouldn't!
And this is how we know that Twitter is a bad company. They purposely allow one type of discrimination whilst at the same time shut down another. Why do they not understand that all discrimination is bad? Or is there another reason? Could it be something to do with their own ideology?
Twitter has a history of allowing certain types of discrimination to pass. And you know what, they re a company, and while the First Amendment doesn't protect the free speech of corporations, they do have a moral obligation to shut down real instances of hate.
The reality is, they can either do one or the other. Either let all things pass (which is a perfectly acceptable angle, as we can only stand up to bigotry if it is in the open), or remove all posts that are clearly racist. They can't pick and choose which racism they support and which they don't.
