The hugely divisive deal with Iran brokered by former President Barack Obama is about to be shut down. President Trump has continued to sign waivers that allow the sanctions that are in place to be ignored, but now he has stated that everyone has until the Spring waiver to get this deal fixed so that it actually benefits someone other than a regime that is most likely still developing its nuclear program.
“This is a last chance,” Trump said. “In the absence of such an agreement, the United States will not again waive sanctions in order to stay in the Iran nuclear deal.”
Iran's Foreign Minister Jarad Zarif accused Trump of trying to “maliciously” destroy the deal. He said:
“Trump's policy (and) today's announcement amount to desperate attempts to undermine a solid multilateral agreement,” Zarif tweeted shortly after Trump's statement. “Rather than repeating tired rhetoric, US must bring itself into full compliance — just like Iran.”
But this deal was ONLY good for Iran. What benefit was there to the US (other than Obama thought ti would stop them continuing with a weapons program)? They have clearly been ignoring the spirit of the deal. And why should foreign countries pay unfriendly regimes to not produce weapons that we know, at some point, will either be used against us or even their own people?
Trump has this right.
