Much press is being given to what is happening in the United States regarding immigration, illegal immigration, and national security. There are some who appeal for completely open borders insisting that there is enough to go around for all, and there are others who want a complete shutdown of all immigration, legal or otherwise.
As is so often the case, the real answer lies somewhere in the middle. But the problem is, each side believes the other side to be extremists. With this kind of attitude, it is unlikely that great immigration reform will ever be achieved…or will it?
Despite what is portrayed by the left-leaning media, quite a lot is actually happening in immigration right now. It is not The Wall as many would hope, but rather the small differences that make a huge impact.
- Attitude – Since Trump came to power, even just the attitude towards illegal immigrants crossing the border has had an impact…with crossings way down as potential border crossers know that the US is clamping down.
- DACA deal? – Instead of kicking the problem into the long grass, Trump has decided to tackle DACA. It was once a popular theme with Democrats until they abandoned the DACA recipients in favor of an anti-2nd Amendment agenda. But the problem hasn't gone away… The court date is coming soon.
- “Travel Ban” – Remember when the left mocked Trump and his fans when the so-called Muslim ban was blocked by the courts? You may not have heard of it in recent months, but that is because the decision to halt Trump's Executive Order was overturned and is now in place, working perfectly!
These are just a few examples of the quiet revolution that is taking place on immigration reform. There are many more.
