Since a new program that requires people to do some kind of work to receive Food Stamps began, enrollment rate has dropped off significantly. In Georgia, there was a 50% drop, and in Alabama a massive 85% drop off rate.
As a result of the fiscal policies employed by the Obama Administration, there have never been more recipients of Government welfare in the nation's history; the new programs seek to get people back into the habit of working by encouraging the people to engage in employment. That so many people have not renewed or new people enrolled means one of two things:
- President Trump is doing such an amazing job that everyone is finding work immediately (would be nice, but not likely)
- Many of the people who were already claiming Food Stamps were already in employment that doesn't put them on the tax register.
When we talk about poverty in the US, it is startling to realize just how blind many people are to what real poverty actually is. In the list below (courtesy of Eagle Rising), you'll see the things that many people who claim Food Stamps buy. The truth is that if they can afford these things, it is likely that they really don't need government assistance.
Real poverty exists, but it exists for very few in the US. Real poverty is where food is unavailable, where fresh drinking water is not available, and where even emergency medical treatment is nowhere to be found. Government Welfare is important ad valuable. It is the safety net that signifies a society actually cares about its citizens, but when that system is abused (and the abuse is encouraged by a Leftist government), it loses its meaning and its dignity.

As reported in Eagle Rising:
It is alarmingly frustrating and maddening that there are those of us who work extremely hard and have such large chunks of our hard earned money taken out of our paychecks.
Don’t get me wrong, I am okay with the money going towards our roads, paying teachers, and helping people who truly need help, i.e. the elderly, disabled veterans, and those have fallen on hard times.
Welfare is something that was created to be a temporary crutch to get through a hard time. However, over time, it has simply become a way for people to cheat work and still receive government assistance.
If you can afford any of these things, you do not need food stamps and welfare:
- A smartphone
- Lottery tickets
- New Tattoos
- New cars
- Cable tv
I am sure there are plenty more items to be added to that list but those are just the first ones to pop into my mind.
All of the things I listed above are luxuries. They are NOT necessary to survive. If you have means to survive – a place to live, clothes, water, food- then you do not need welfare. Welfare is meant for the people who cannot afford the means to survive.
In some states, they have implemented a new law that requires people to work for the food stamps they are receiving. Guess what? The numbers of people receiving that government assistance PLUMMETED!
There are absolutely WAY too many people cheating the system and receiving welfare when it isn’t even really that they need help. It boils down to one thing: laziness.
Get up, go to work, and make an honest living. I am not saying it’s going to be easy because it isn’t always easy. In my home, we work hard and we work long hours. Does it suck sometimes? Yes, it does. However, we are able to afford everything we need and most of the things we want.
