While many on the right are despairing about what will happen come the 2018 midterm elections, there are still stalwarts who not only predict a solid performance but have shown t path to getting there.
Right now, many in the GOP are playing a defensive game, shoring up safer seats and digging in to fend off Democrat surging in less safe ones. But Newt Gingrich says that there is another way… He suggests that it is time for the GOP to take the offensive position and start pushing their agenda and policies…much in the same way that the DNC will be doing.
He talks about how the right need to play on policies that have already been a success, singling out the Tax Cuts and Jobs Bill that President Trump managed to get passes. It is an example of an actual, real world, political success that does good for a great many people.
In Newt's Op-Ed for Fox, he lays out a series of policies that are already on the Republican radar that should not only be able to pass, but are also going to be popular with most Americans. He says:
“These are straightforward, popular fights that fit perfectly with President Trump’s agenda to make America great again. They are also fights that Democrats will not be able to defend against in most parts of the country. Republicans must pick these issues up and run with them – then find more winning arguments and continue the blitz.”
If Republicans actually have a game plan this time, they might just make gains instead of managing losses.
