The University of Missouri is having to let 400 staff members go and shut down 700 dorms this year, all because of backlash against their mishandling of the Racism protests.
The sad string of events that lead to this started when students on campus created a group called “MU for Michael Brown” demanding that the University has a response (despite Officer Darren Wilson being cleared of all charges). It ended with Mizzou System President Tim Wolfe resigning, after months of protests in which we can assume almost no actual study took place.
Enrollments are now massively down, as are the all important donations to the Athletics Department…By 72%!!! But this was to be expected. Many parents pay for their children to attend University in the hopes that they will receive an education, not become radical activists who seem incapable of forming a thought that hasn't been dictated to them by the latest BLM Hero.
Surprisingly to some, enrollments for Black students are down by 42% and for Whites, only 21%. Students who previously applied to attend have been withdrawing their applications or just “not turning up”.
When you let kids run a University while providing neither discipline nor critical thinking skills, this is what you get. And Mizzou is not alone in this. The enrollment rates at many campuses that have student activity linked to groups like Black Lives Matter is falling off; this is the real damage that Hate Groups achieve: they stop people thinking! They rely on immature minds to blindly follow emotive pleas that cannot stand up to proper scrutiny. The leaders of tomorrow need to stop following like sheep.
As reported in The Daily Wire:
After it was reported at the end of June that the University of Missouri, crippled by a plunge in enrollment after its debacle over charges of racism in 2015, was attempting to recoup its losses by renting dorm rooms to football weekend visitors, there is now this: The New York Timesreports that the university is temporarily closing seven dormitories and cutting over 400 positions, including those of some non-tenured faculty members.
You might expect that the decline in enrollment occurred primarily among whites, after the flimsily-supported racism charges of 2015 resulted in the resignation of the university’s president; The Daily Wirereported, “Many parents and alumni responded by refusing to contribute money to the public university. For example, donations to its athletics department dropped 72% last year.”
But here’s the big surprise: as the Times notes: “Students of all races have shunned Missouri, but the drop in freshman enrollment last fall was strikingly higher among blacks, at 42%, than among whites, at 21%.”
Mun Choi, the new University of Missouri System president, told the Times, “The general consensus was that it was because of the aftermath of what happened in November 2015. There were students from both in-state and out-of-state that just did not apply, or those who did apply but decided not to attend.”
The 400 people who are now out of work due to the antics of students are rightly angered:
