The WaPo recently covered a story in which a black man hit and killed a Hispanic woman. They ran what amounts to sympathetic coverage of the murderer because he alleged that the woman used a racial slur against him.
Fortunately, the jury found him guilty of murder…This didn't stop WaPo running the headline:“He said he punched a woman for calling him the n-word. A jury called it murder.”
What kind of message is this sending? It seems to suggest that the woman “got what she deserved.” Other than self-defence or the saving of others, there is never an excuse for murder. So why would they run this kind of coverage?
The sad fact is, that other murderers have successfully used the defense tactic of claiming racism as an excuse for their actions.
Just last year, David Grant killed Joni Donley and walked free from court. Grant argued that Donley had used a racial slur. Despite the fact that this was not conclusively proven, and that witnesses state that Donley was walking away from Grant when Grant grabbed him, this miscarriage of justice went ahead.
What message is being sent here? How many more people will try to get away with murder by stating that they were racially insulted?
There are many more incidents like this…It's time we all woke up to the fact that race is being used as an excuse for terrible crimes. The lawyers know it…and they will continue to use it as a defense meaning killers will be free to walk the streets.
