Ex NFL cornerback Dimitri Patterson left the Jets, and now he may be going away for some time again. The 34-year-old injured two police officers while trying to run away from a Miami family courtroom Tuesday, according to the Miami Herald.
After the judge told him he'd be going to jail.Patterson, who played for six NFL teams from 2005 to 2013, will face additional charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer, for attempting to rush from the court. In the process, he knocked an officer over, who hit her head and was briefly hospitalized. Another officer suffered a wrist injury before Patterson was arrested on Tuesday evening.
It's unclear why Patterson was in family court. In 2015, he faced felony child abuse charges, based on ESPN, for an incident where an argument over child support payments using an ex-girlfriend supposedly ended with their then-1-year-old suffering a bruise to the head.
Patterson was with the Jets during 2014 training camp, until he left. The veteran cornerback went AWOL for 48 hours, missing a preseason game with the Giants and being gone from the group without notice for a weekend. When he returned, he called coach Rex Ryan and then-GM John Idzik liars, saying his representative had told the group of his whereabouts. The issue was settled when the team cut him another week. He completed his career in 2014 with Miami, where he intercepted four passes.
